About Our Featured Speaker

Chelsie Onaga with cap and glasses, smiling Chelsie Onaga is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Community Food Systems at University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu. During her internship at MAʻO Organic Farms, she built a relationship with the ʻaina, youth leaders, and the Waiʻanae community that sparked an interest in food security and youth advocacy. She completed her food systems senior practicum by helping organize and facilitate this years Hoʻōla ʻĀina Youth Food Sovereignty Congress. The congress resulted in a powerful statement from youth delegates calling for change in Hawaiʻi’s relationship to food, health, education, and culture.

About Peace Day

In 2007, Hawaii became the first state to recognize Peace Day. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on or around September 21. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
