HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Living Treasures of Hawaii™.

The “Living Treasures of Hawaii” was inspired by the Living National Treasures (Ningen Kokuho) of Japan. Since 1976, the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii has recognized individuals who have demonstrated excellence and high standards of achievement in their particular fields and who are continuing to preserve and perpetuate the island’s distinctive cultural and artistic heritage.

Candidates are selected based on their demonstration of continuous growth and learning in one’s area of strength, their consistent sharing of knowledge and understanding of their particular field, and their steady and significant contributions towards enriching our society.

An organization or person may nominate a candidate for this honor by submitting a nomination form with information on the nominee, and a maximum of three recommendation letters. The nomination form is available at the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Headquarters Office located at 1727 Pali Highway, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813 and

The completed nomination must be received by the Living Treasures Committee no later than September 1st.

The 44th Living Treasures of Hawaii Recognition Program and Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019, 12:00 p.m. in the Coral Ballroom at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.
