Ceremony at Hiroshima Peace Bell held on 74th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima

The 30th Annual Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Service Ceremony was held August 6, 2019, at Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii in Honolulu’s Chinatown. The Hiroshima Peace Bell, a gift to Honolulu from the Prefecture of Hiroshima in 1985, is sited at the shrine.

The keynote speaker for the event was Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor Lawrence Fumio Miwa. The video below includes some scenes from the event as well as Mr. Miwa’s eye-witness account of the bombing 74 years ago.

Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Bishop Eric Matsumoto and Rev. Kazunori Takahashi were in attendance at the ceremony.
