“Jodo Shinshu Buddhism: A Celebration of Joy and Gratitude” premieres on ‘Ōlelo July 8-11

An announcement by Bishop Eric Matsumoto, July 7, 2020

Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii, Office of the Bishop, is proud to announce the premiere of “Jodo Shinshu Buddhism: A Celebration of Joy and Gratitude.”

The year 2019 marked the 130th Anniversary of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. To commemorate the occasion, the idea of a video to capture the thoughts and feelings of our diverse membership — including some of our younger members from each District of Hawaii Kyodan — was proposed to the Propagation Grant Committee, which funded the project.

Mahalo to all individuals who were interviewed and videotaped. A special mention of appreciation to Mrs. Irene Nakamoto and Mr. Mark Nitta who devoted much time and energy towards the completion of the video. Also, much gratitude to ‘Ōlelo Media Company. Due to circumstances, there was a delay in the completion of the video. However, it turns out that its release is very timely and hopefully will be appreciated under our situation with COVID-19.

The Premiere of “Jodo Shinshu Buddhism: A Celebration of Joy and Gratitude” on ‘Ōlelo 53 has been paired with the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Living Treasures of Hawaii 2020 video. The airtime for the videos are as follows:
