Participants in the 2016 retreat
Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii has a program for training committed and interested lay people in assisting ministers at their respective temples. The program is part of the path to becoming a Minister’s Lay Assistant as certified by the Bishop.
One component of the program is an annual Minister’s Lay Assistant retreat at the Buddhist Study Center in Honolulu to review and enrich the participants’ skills and knowledge associated with Jodo Shinshu and the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha (Jodo Shinshu world headquarters in Japan). The retreat is also an opportunity for participants to get to know each other better as friends and fellow travelers on the Path of Nembutsu.
For more information, see an article about the 2016 retreat by Buddhist Study Center Director, Rev. Kevin Kuniyuki.
