About the Speaker and Seminar
Dr. Jeff Wilson is a professor of Religious Studies and East Asian Studies at Renison University College and the University of Waterloo, in Ontario, Canada. He is a former Yehan Numata Visiting Chair in Buddhist Studies for the Department of Religion at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Dr. Wilson is the author of Buddhism of the Heart: Reflections on Shin Buddhism and Inner Togetherness, among other books. He received his tokudo ministerial ordination at Nishi Hongwanji in 2012.
How and why do Buddhists get engaged with social issues in their communities and the wider society? What resources are found in the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist tradition for tackling the challenges of our times? What are some inspiring examples of Buddhists making a positive impact on the world in Hawai’i and beyond? Come explore these questions and consider Buddhist answers around climate change, racism, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and other important matters.
