According to legend, during Shinran Shonin’s time, he noticed the farmers were preoccupied with planting rice and could not come to listen to the Dharma. So Shinran Shonin went among the farmers and planted rice with them. In the shared conversations, Shinran created songs about planting rice and skillfully wove Buddhist teachings into them to share the Buddha Dharma.

Today, Professor Aaron Proffitt shares his family practices. He believes that family practices will remain within your family and expand to other people they encounter in the same way Shinran practiced with the farmers.
