The seventh Choralfest of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will be held September 29-30 (Saturday-Sunday), 2018 at Hawaii Betsuin in Honolulu.
Choralfest is an opportunity for singers to present, as a massed choir, contemporary choral arrangements of Buddhist gathas at a special music service on Sunday. The day before the service, registered singers will participate in an intense half-day rehearsal followed by dinner and entertainment. The purpose of the musical event is for both singers and listeners to express joy in the Buddha-Dharma.
This seventh Hawaii choralfest is open to singers from all Honpa Hongwanji temples in Hawaii and to a few participants from BCA. The conductor of the festival choir will be Nola Nahulu, who is director of the Hawaii Opera Chorus as well as Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus and a Honpa Hongwanji of Hawaii Living Treasure. The piano accompanist will be Francis Okano.
