YOUNG BUDDHIST INTERNATIONAL
CULTURAL STUDY EXCHANGE (YBICSE)
JULY 15 – 27, 2019

April 1, 2019

In a letter distributed today to Honpa Hongwanji temple ministers and presidents, Bishop Eric Matsumoto invited applications from Jodo Shinshu Buddhists from 9th grade to age 25 for YBICSE — the Young Buddhist International Cultural Study Exchange (YBICSE).

YBICSE is a program for young Jodo Shinshu Buddhists (from 9th grade to age 25). Its basic purpose is for young Jodo Shinshu Buddhists to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Nembutsu teaching by visiting our Mother Temple or Honzan, the Hongwanji, experiencing a home stay, and traveling to several historical and/or significant sites with fellow young Buddhists.

This year’s YBICSE will be held from July 15-27, 2019. The participants will travel to Japan to attend the Honzan’s program from July 17 to 24. The students from Buddhist Churches of America, Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada, South America Hongwanji Mission, and Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will be gathering in Japan. It will be a great opportunity for young people to visit our main temple in Kyoto and to meet fellow Jodo Shinshu Buddhists from other countries.

If you are or someone you know is interested, please review and/or forward the itinerary and application form. Those wishing to apply should read the candidate qualifications and other information and complete their applications according to the instructions provided by April 30, 2019.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rev. Kazunori Takahashi at hqs@honpahi.org or call him at (808) 522-9200.
