Honoka‘a Hongwanji Buddhist Temple’s Peace Committee just shared some inspiring news: The committee’s Feeding Our Keiki and Kupuna program has now served over 100,000 meals and distributed over 1 million pounds of groceries!

The media, including KITV and Hawaii News Now, covered the milestone on TV, in newspapers, and online. Public officials, including Governor Josh Green, expressed their congratulations and support.

Over the last 7 years, this community meal program has become a critical resource for many. Each Friday, community members pick up meals from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For volunteers, the day begins at 8:30 a.m. with grocery bag prep and continues with meal prep, plating and distribution, and continues after 5:30 p.m. with cleanup.

Feeding Our Keiki and Kupuna is made possible by monetary donations, grocery donations, and volunteers. Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii has provided consistent support through its Social Concerns Fund, thanks to donations from temple members.

You can find more information about the program, including ways to support it, on Honoka‘a Hongwanji’s website.
